Enjoying Gay Fiction

How to Enjoy Gay Fiction

by Alex Anderson

I admit, whenever I read trashy romance novels or any book with steamy sex scenes, I get turned on. I really think that reading this kind of material is best done alone. This is your chance to escape from reality, to jump in and fantasize you’re in the story itself.

I read both straight and gay fiction. For the former, this includes the wildly popular 50 Shades of Grey. The story takes forever to get going, but once it does, you can’t put it down. Take this scene, for example:

“… he turns me around. ‘Hold onto the sink,’ he orders and pulls my hips back again like he did in the playroom … And I cum, loudly, gripping for dear life onto the sink as I spiral down through my orgasm …” Of course, I imagine that it’s me who’s holding the sink.

Here are my tips for enhancing your gay fiction reading experience. Of course, I hope you follow this advice while reading Possession of Truth or Wicked Game!

  • Draw a bath. It doesn’t matter if you have a whirlpool bath or not. Just soak your body in some hot water while you read a few chapters.
  • Find an ocean view. Or a lake view. Or a river view. Or a pool view. Or even a pond. It’s even better if you’re on a balcony and the sounds of people below become ambient noise as you indulge.
  • Pick a room in your house and lock the door. Maybe it’s your den or the guest bedroom. Sit on whatever is comfortable, from a fainting chair to a bean bag chair. Keep the lights low. Don’t let anyone disturb you.

I like to imbibe while I read, so I’ll often have a glass of wine, a gin and tonic or my favorite, a Bloody Mary. Choose whatever “accessory” gets you in the zone, be it music or pillows or snacks or whatever.
